Job Description

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Essential functions are the duties and responsibilities that are essential to the position. Able to receive assignments and acquire the necessary information to begin the assigned duties presented to them by the Registered Nurse/Preceptor. Demonstrate competence in the skills necessary to recognize and respond to the patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs as deemed necessary in relation to the patient populations served.
Clinical Care Support:
Contributes toward the accomplishment of patient goals by providing care and carrying out functions as assigned by the Registered Nurse. Provides for the intraoperative needs of a patient by performing the role of Second Scrub under the direction of the RN or Preceptor.
Technical Care Support:
Maintains the sterile field throughout the operative procedure and assists the Surgical Technologist and Surgeon appropriately during a procedure. Assists the Surgical Team in preparing the operating suite for consecutive cases and assists with the turnover of the room.
Departmental Support:
Cleans up the instruments and disposables appropriately following all established guidelines. Transfers instruments to and from Central Service following established hospital policy.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria:

Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
