The following units may have open positions, but placement will be determined based on candidate interest and hiring needs. These are not float positions.
Responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. Provides age-appropriate care. Participates in research when appropriate and incorporates research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. Contributes to quality improvement processes. Adheres to MMC Mission, Vision, and Values, the Nursing Division Mission, Vision, and Philosophy, the ANA Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nursing Act.
Surgical Unit Summaries:
2B Surgical & ENT is a General Surgical unit, focusing on ENT. A typical day consists of safety huddles, bedside shift report, assessing patients, using technology to deliver medications safely, and ensuring the plan of care is delivered to surgical, trauma and tracheostomy patients. The average stay for a patient is 3 days and a tracheostomy patient is 5-7 days; with about 5 discharges and admissions per day.
The 2B unit is very fast pace with the need for quick patient turnover, as patients need to be closed out quickly and ensured that everything is done before they are discharged. An RN on 2B will be caring for a variety of patients and should be a team player who can communicate efficiently under pressure with team members, patients and the Nurse Manager.
2G is a General Surgical unit with subspecialties of plastic surgery with neuro-vascular monitoring that includes limb re-attachment and reconstructive surgeries, colorectal, bariatric surgical patients as well as gyne-oncology, and general surgery patients. A typical day consists of safety huddles, bedside shift report, assessing patients, using technology to deliver medications safely, and ensuring the plan of care is delivered. This unit includes opportunities for wound care, large dressings, and use of specialty beds, medication administration and IV pain management.
7A is a Gynecology Surgical unit that also admits general pediatric patients and provides overflow for maternal child couplets.
Licensed as RN in State of Illinois. ADN, BSN preferred.
Current BLS/CPR certification per policy.
Must be able to position and/or transfer an average adult patient and possess gross coordination sufficient to perform other patient care duties as required. Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing. Must be able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as IV insertion and IM injections.
Environmental working conditions include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, contagious diseases and/or radioactive or other potentially hazardous materials.
